Girard Perregeaux 1960s 25 Jewel Gyromatic

This is a Girard Perregaux gold plated 25J automatic Gyromatic watch has Girard Perregaux marked on the inside case and Girard Perregaux 25 Jewels Gyromatic marked on the movement. Has GP marked on the crown. Serial number: 3109132 The width of the watch without the crown is about 33mm and about 41mm length from top to bottom lugs. Snap on case back
The movement was completely dissembled, cleaned and oiled in August 2006. The winding pinion and back gasket were replaced.

GP invented a unique free-drive which acts like a clutch or coupling, called "Gyromatic".
While they had Gyromatic movements before 1957 (as stated on their site and in their literature), it seems some of the earlier movements had problems (because they changed the base calibres several times). The Gyromatic has become collectible in its own right.
