Chromachron Tian Harlan Rare 1970s Octagonal Mechanical Watch
Rare and all-original 1970s mechanical version of the famous Chronochrom designed by Tian Harlan. Watch signed and manufactured by Jean Perret, Geneva.
The 17 jewel movement works well. The case is 35mm in diameter and 9 mm thick. Gold Plated over stainless steel, the watch is New Old Stock, never having been worn.
The name Chromachron stems from the Greek; Chroma means colour and Chronos time
Tian Harlan is the artist sculptor best known for his Color/Time clock tower sculpture at the 1972 Winter Olympics in Munich. So popular was the idea in the 1970s of a watch that ended what Harlan called the "dictatorship of exact time", that rock stars, doyens of art and theatre, movie stars and other members of the social elite purchased them.
Harlan's Chronomachrons were worn amongst others by Mick Jagger, Ringo Star, Max Bill, Charles Aznavour, Carlo Levi and even by members of Iron Butterlywho wrote the Chromachron song!

Rare Breitling Bulls Head/Pupitre 1970s New Old Stock Chronomatic Calibre 11.
Stainless Steel mint automatic blue grey dial with 30 minute register at 12:00, date at 3:00, 12 hour register at 6:00, signed winding crown at 6:00, pushers at 11:00 and 1:00 positions, 42 1/2 x 45 1/2mm bull head case. 17 jewels watch with a frequency of 19800 A/h and power reserve of 42 hours, the cal.11 was the world’s second automatic chronographs. In 1969 the Breitling firm participated in the joint development of an "automatic chronograph" a mechanical chronograph with automatic winding. The watch, a sensation for the Swiss watch industry, became known as the "Chronomat." As part of the "Chronomat-Chrono-Matic" series, some 300,000 were produced including a variant automatic model for sailors known as the "Super Ocean." It was beaten by the Zenith El Primero 3019 to the title of first automatic chronograph by a matter of months. This watch uses a micro rotor under the dial (which is why it is not visible when case back open.)
You may notice some tiny marks around the rim where the caseback meets the case of the watch. This is a small amount of residue from the old gasket.
This Breitling dates from before August 1979 when the almost 100-year old Breitling firm was closed after Willy Breitling's death earlier that year. Case Reference: 2117, case serial number 1370478. Overall condition of dial: New Old Stock. Overall condition of movement: Excellent. Retail price around the A 3000.00 - 4500.00 for a mint example. Universal Geneve 1960s Polerouter Date Cal 218-2
Universal Geneve Polerouter Date Steel & Gold Wrist Watch. This watch is in very good condition. Automatic movement with date indicator at the 3 O'clock. Central sweeping second hand. Gold cap with 18K Gold inner bezel and dial. Original Universal Geneve Crown. Watch is from the 1960's.
The successors of the inaugural Polerouter cal. 215 are the cal. 218 and 218-2 (date). Introduced arround 1960, it replaced all calibers of the type 215. The movement thickness was reduced to 4.7 mm owing to the integration of the date function. The movement has the same micrometric adjustment of the balance spring as the cal. 215 (chronomètre). Furthermore, it featured several innovations of the automatic winding system. For example, on 30th January 1957, Universal Genève lodged an application for Patent No. 330900, referring to a further development of the winding mechanism.
This watch was fully overhauled in 2006 for a cost of 380.00. The watchmaker commented in the excellent condition of the watch overall and this piece will give much service for many years.

Girard Perregaux 1962 Overhauled Seahawk Manual Wind Watch
This is a very handsome example of the Girard Perreguax Seahawk in excellent condition. The GP Seahawk is truly an all-time classic. This watch, being Girard Perregaux's most popular watch model, is still in production today and is an expensive contemporary timepiece.
The dial of this watch is immaculate and handsome. It has a very clean and sharp presentation with classic baton hour indices and Dauphine hands. Note the applied GP logo. The YGF steel case is in excellent condition and has a very low profile that wears quite nicely. The case measures 32.5mm in diameter. Note the teardrop, faceted lugs. A new crystal and a new leather band have been fitted. Case is finely polished. The high-quality hand wound movement is signed GP and is very clean. It has recently been overhauled and is keeping very good time
The watch has an inscription on the back ‘ James S Smith 16 years –1962- Thompson Aircraft Tire Corp.’. While some collectors baulk at inscriptions, I believe they give a watch character and provenance.

This is a Girard Perregaux gold plated 25J automatic Gyromatic watch has Girard Perregaux marked on the inside case and Girard Perregaux 25 Jewels Gyromatic marked on the movement. GP invented a unique free-drive which acts like a clutch or coupling, called "Gyromatic".
While they had Gyromatic movements before 1957 (as stated on their site and in their literature), it seems some of the earlier movements had problems (because they changed the base calibres several times). The Gyromatic has become collectible in its own right.

Blancpain 1950s Rare 14K Solid Gold Watch Manual Wind
Blancpain 14K Solid Gold Mens Watch. This Swiss manual wind watch is 14K gold, in good condition and running well. Dial and crystal are very good, and a new band has been fitted. Case back/serial number is 400070 and reads 14K. On the17 jewels movement is stamped “Swiss Made”, “Blancpain, Switzerland”, “Rayville SA”, “Unadjusted”.
The caseback is marked WBO, and it appears that, as was the custom of the time, movements and dials were imported into the US and the case was furnished by the agent/importer. This was a widespread practice at the time, designed to avoid excessive duty on complete watch ensembles.
This is an early and very collectible Blancpain, a company that commands high prices for its new watches. This in-house movement and case with fancy lugs is rare. The movement was made in the factory while the widow of the last Blancpain was running the company, which she ran successfully until her death sometime in the 1960s.The factory stopped production entirely in the 1970s, and only the name and the old factory building survived when Jean-Claude Biver, an Omega executive, purchased the name 18 years later. Various watchmakers’ inscriptions appear on the inner caseback, the earliest legible date of service being 1958.

Omega Geneve Dynamic NOS SS 1970s Cal 1012
Omega Dynamic automatic. Oval shaped, highly polished case 41.3 x 36.3 in dimension without crown. Watch is 100 percent authentic with correct hands for this type of dial. The Dynamic 1 models ST 135.003 with a calibre 601 movement and the automatic date ST 166.0039 cal 565 were released in 1967/68. The 17 jewel non date version was cal 613. Other calibres followed with cal 752 in 1968 ST 166.079(day date), Cal 1481 ST166.0107 (21 jewels) in 1972, Cal 1012 - 23 jewels in 1973 (ST166.0187, and cal 684 (24 jewels) ST 566.0073 in 1974.
This watch has a calibre 1012 movement housed in case number 166.0175. According to information provided by Jean-Luc Miranda of Omega Museum this is an authentic Dynamic with an automatic calendar movement of cal. 1012, 23 jewels, with central sweep-second hand. This watch style replaced the former Genève Dynamic references ST 166.0039 AND 166.0107. International Collection : 1974-1975
The computer designed ergonomic dial was designed to fit the contours of the wrist. Its elliptical shape results from an advanced study of the anatomy of the wrist and specifically the oval zone on which the wristwatch rests. Self-winding movement. Monocoque case, hermetically sealed crystal assuring water-resistance to 30 m. Dial in harmony with the decidedly functional look of the watch for easy legibility of the hour, the minute and the second thanks to concentric time "zones" and contrasting coloured hands. A new approach to the bracelet was incorporated into the design: a single piece screw-in into a circular groove under the case by a steel ring; cut in Corfam, a porous synthetic material pierced with 30 aerating holes; widened near the case to fit firmly and comfortably on the wrist. Crown integrated to the case in order not to break the aerodynamic line which inspired this famous model's name.

Longines 1930s Vintage Weems Wristwatch US Patent 2008730

It has two crowns, both of which work well. It has an old, possibly the original, band...The Weems, along with the Lindbergh Hour Angle Watch, are arguably the two most famous watches produced by Longines.
Lt. Commander Philip Van Horn Weems, U.S. Navy, taught navigation at the Naval Academy in Annapolis. Working with Longines, he devised a wrist watch that could be adjusted for time error. (Correct time was critical to air travel at the time in calculating position, time to destination, full consumption, and so forth). The wearer would rotate the movable bezel, keeping the 60-second mark over the sweep seconds hand, until a minute tone was broadcast over the airplane’s radio (Greenwich Civil Time is broadcast by a radio signal every minute). At that point, the wearer stops turning the bezel (in sync with the seconds hand) and locks it into place with the crown at 2:00. Thus, any deviation from Greenwich Civil Time can be observed and compensated for when making any critical calculations.

Very Rare NOS Lanco 1972 Lanco Astrolon Plastic Mechanical Watch
(sorry about the pics - better pics available on request)
This is the pre-cursor to the Swatch watch and is a fascinating example of horological history. The Astrolon is the first ever fully plastic watch movement and quality examples are extremely rare. This Lanco version of the Astrolon, which appeared in both Tissot and Lanco brands, is new-old-stock, never having been worn. The watch comes with the original issue Hole Perfo strap. There are very minor marks on the case back. The movement is operating flawlessly as the plastic components ensure self-lubrication and little wear.
The case is a rarity in its own right, being chrome with a steel back as opposed to many of the Tissot models which were all plastic. The design of the watch is influenced by Omega’s ‘ergonomic’ designs of the Omega Dynamic and is 39mm from 12 to 6 o’clock and 38mm from 9 to 3 o’clock.

Within several years of establishment family members Georges and Sylvain Dreyfuss began importing Rotary watches to Britain. Rotary later became the official watch supplier for the British Army. The well known “winged wheel” Rotary logo was introduced in 1925 and has since then undergone minor changes in appearance. Going from strength to strength, Rotary is now an international company that sells its watches in more than 35 countries. Presently Robert Dreyfuss – the great grandchild of Moise Dreyfuss – is chairman of Rotary Watches Ltd.
